About Build Optimizer

Build Optimizer is a free, independent fan site that helps Minecraft Dungeons and Minecraft Dungeons II players work out the best build from the gear they actually own.

Why it exists

Both games hand you a lot of gear and very little information about how it adds up. A weapon's tooltip doesn't tell you how its enchantments interact with your armor, which artifacts feed each other, or whether a build that melts mobs on Default will survive on the hardest difficulty. Most players either copy a build from a video, which assumes gear they don't have, or guess. This site does the maths instead.

What you can do here

• Optimize your own gear. Add the items you own, or load them from your save file in Minecraft Dungeons, and the optimizer searches every combination for the best build. You choose what matters: damage, survival, healing, crowd clearing, boss damage and speed.
• See the best builds. For each playstyle (All-Round, Damage, Tank, Mob Clearing, Boss Killing and Mobility) there is a page with the best build if you own everything, and how it changes at each difficulty.
• Check the tier lists. Every weapon, piece of armor and artifact in each game, ranked from S to D by how much it adds to strong builds.
• Share a build. Every build has a link and an image you can send to friends or post with a video.

How builds are scored

Each item's numbers (damage per hit, attack speed, cooldowns, armor properties, enchantment values) go into a model of combat that estimates six things for a build: damage per second, damage reduction, healing, how fast it clears groups of mobs, damage against bosses, and movement speed. Enchantments and artifacts are modelled together, so synergies such as cooldown reduction feeding artifact damage, or soul gathering powering soul artifacts, show up in the score.

Your priorities weight those six results into one score out of 100, where 100 is the best build the optimizer can find for those priorities. The tier lists use the same model: an item ranks highly when the strongest builds that use it score well.

A model is never the game itself, so treat scores as a strong guide rather than gospel. When a number turns out wrong, it gets fixed and the builds and tier lists are recalculated.

Where the data comes from

Item stats come from the games' own files, through community datamines such as dungeons.tools, cross-checked against the Minecraft Wiki. Minecraft Dungeons II data is refreshed as the game is patched.

Who runs it

Build Optimizer is made by a Minecraft Dungeons fan and is not connected to Mojang or Microsoft. It has no accounts and doesn't collect personal information: your gear and builds stay in your own browser. Ads and the occasional Ko-fi donation pay for hosting.
